Yet another kudos to Steve Roberson at Colonial Tonewoods. I just
received an order from him and I'm really pleased. I got a AA Sitka
soundboard, Sapelle back and sides, sitka bracewood and kerfing, a
maple bridge plate and a macassar ebony bridge blank. All of the wood
is really top notch (well quartered, completely clear of defects, nice grain)
in my noob opinion, and certainly was a good value.
All of the above, plus a couple of practice sides and an ebony headplate
he threw in for right at $100! Easily the best prices I found anywhere. It
was also convenient because he had kerfing, which I didn't feel like
making and some of the tonewood sponsors don't carry.

Here's a close-up of the soundboard. You can tell it's really tight-grained
except for one spot where it widens out at the edge...guess it rained a lot
those couple of years.



And he's a really nice guy on top of that!

steve has a serious stash of wood that's for sure!

i have spent a lot of money with steve, and all i can say is he is a consumate professional, his customer contact is first class, his products are excellent, and he strives to find what you are looking for. if you are not happy with something he will either replace or refund it, no questions ask.

i would encourage any of you to speak to steve and be very very pleased with what you get.

I just took a look at alaskatonewood.com and have to say I'm really impressed with the labor that goes into harvesting that wood. It was also interesting to see pictures of the bolts before they're sawn into soundboards.

Out of curiosity, how many cords will one of those fallen trees yield?

In any case, if this was one of your babies, thanks for haulin' her down off the mountain for me!

I have two going right now and I got my tops from alaskatonewood, one is high figured sitka bearclaw and the other is medium/light figure same, I really liked the wood, my first time to buy from them. Fast good service and nice product

Steve is A great guy! We are lucky to have such good people hanging and selling on this forum. Steve is definitely one of real "good guys". Everything I have ever gotten from him was top notch.

Yeah i know what you mean, the only run out i can afford now is to run out of the house if i think of buying something else related to guitars or new tools!

I'll say again...Steve's wood is great, and his prices reasonable. That says a lot about him, his business and his suppliers. Good stuff.
I can't wait to see the ziricote he got a few months back all sliced up, dried, and on his site. I can only imagine. Steve said it was *special stuff*.

Hi John,

I note that you have made this comment before here and I think that I know to whom you are referring but if I am wrong and you think that any of us sponsors here on this forum operate in that fashion please let us know, preferably by e-mail or PM. I have had dealings with most of the sponsors listed above and I have to say that I think they are a class lot! All are very knowledagble and as you can see throughout the threads on this forum they all try their best to get the products to the those that need/want (40 sets Mattia? ) them in a very proffesional manner and all stand behind their products, no questions asked! Again, I don't think your comment was directed at any of the sponsors but I just want to be sure that I am right about that.

Holy cow! Steve. Have mercy. I'm a beginner without any money. I'm a nearly retired public school teacher. I've never had any money. Do you have installment plans, like half a back one month, the left side the following month, etc.?

Yeouch. That Claro is calling to me. Pesky Claro! And now the Myrtle's started as well! And that's got to be some of the NICEST Ovangkol I've seen, ever.

(and yes, Shane, about 40. Possibly a few more. Maybe closer to 50 once the stuff I've ordered but haven't recieved yet arrives. I'm a lost cause...)
